<EliteGamer> Before we get started I
would like to thank you for taking time out of your schedule to do this interview.
<chemical> No problem... :)
<EliteGamer> Do you feel that there is some competition
between NeoCharity and RomList?
<chemical> I don't see it as competition, although it
seems to be an underlying theme. When I had the idea to start up NC, the motivation was
wanting a way to contribute. I don't think anyone could compete with romlist or would even
want to, as aracorn has dumped countless games and they have done a great service to
emulation as a whole.
<EliteGamer> What will you do once NeoGeo is depleted
(so to speak)? Will you move on to other emulators?
<chemical> Well, I'll always maintain an interest in
other emulators and emulation in general. After the majority of the neogeo games left get
dumped, if the opportunity arises for me to contribute anything or help out with a certain
emulator/emulator project, I will.
<EliteGamer> I've also heard that you're doing
something on PSX-scene, can you tell me something about that?
<chemical> I've had an active interest in the psx demo
scene for a while now. I'm also in a PSX group. We may release an emu for the psx in the
near future. :)
<EliteGamer> Since you are in the PSX scene what do you
think about Bleem?
<chemical> Tough to say. The specs they emailed to the
various emu page admins seem too good to be true. It would be great if it indeed turns out
to be genuine project, but I don't think anyone should get their hopes up until the
various emu page admins get their hands on a beta.
<EliteGamer> The emu for psx that your group is working
on, how far are you on the project?
<chemical> It's fully functional, it only has to be
optimized. Speed is the factor that ultimately decides whether or not it will be released.
It's very difficult to get a good framerate on the slow psx...
<EliteGamer> What have you enjoyed most so far while
running NeoChartity?
<chemical> Other than the kickass games and the
opportunity to share them with everyone, it would be making some new friends...
<EliteGamer> How about the worst thing?
<chemical> There's no real worst thing, all the
problems are trivial and well worth putting up with... :)
<EliteGamer> Do you enjoy the attention/fame you get?
<chemical> Yeah, the attention is nice for the most
part. I wouldnt call it fame, it's just nice to hear that people appreciate something
you've had a hand in...
<EliteGamer> What would you like to see emulated next :
Another Console (N64, etc) or CPS2? and why?
<chemical> CPS2 without a doubt. All the great
fighters, not to mention AD&D 1+2 for it would be great. Throw in netplay, and i'm
retiring. :)
<EliteGamer> KOF98 is wanted by many, but also hated by
many (calling it warez) what is your stance on this? And the distinction between wares and
emulation?
<chemical> I understand where both parties are comming
from, but I think it's a tad bit hypocritical of the folks that are vehemently against it.
For instance, I was in #neogeo after the release of Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 when I was
msg'ed by someone pretty well known to everyone that follows neogeo emulation. He went on
to tell me how strongly against the releasing of games from 1998 he was, and in
particular, RB2. It was pretty funny to hear that, considering he downloaded the game and
played it just like everyone else. I'd wager that this is pretty much the case with most
people who speak ill of releasing a game so soon. Leech it, play it, then bark about it
for the sake of it. People can call it warez, that's fine. However, I'd like to think
there's enough difference between the two to spare it that label.
<EliteGamer> Does NeoCharity have KOF98? is it dumped?
And do you plan on holding off the release?
<chemical> Currently, we don't have it. There are some
reservations about the potential release of a game that new, but we havent given it
much thought yet.
<EliteGamer> Will we ever see the return of any of your
old message boards?
<chemical> Perhaps. :)
<EliteGamer> What is your favorite Emu (beside
NeoRage)?
<chemical> Besides NeoRage, it would probably be
Callus. Followed by, well, take your pick. :) MAME, Raine, Retrocade, Zsnes,
Genecyst/Kgen98, System16.
<EliteGamer> What programs did you use to make
NeoCharity's HTML and graphics (or do you code directly in html)?
<chemical> All of the html I write is done so in plain
old wordpad. Unless I have a small update to make, then I just use pico while i'm telneted
in. The graphics on the NC page were done in Photoshop.
<EliteGamer> Being that the majority of the POPULAR
roms are dumped, are you finding it harder to get the "older" games that have
still not been dumped?
<chemical> Definitely. There's a good deal of obscure
titles in the list of unreleased games that will be extremely hard to find. Chances are,
the people that might have some of those titles don't even know what the hell neocharity
is. :) Don't fret, we're working on bringing you some pleasant surprises as I write
this... :)
<EliteGamer> Obviously "the director"
contacted you about CPS2... do you have any information that can be given to the public?
<chemical> I spoke with the 'director' a few days ago
about it. Unfortunately, he's run into a couple of snags which will delay the project
indefinitely. :-/
<EliteGamer> Has it begun yet, if not when will we
expect the project to proceed?
<chemical> I don't know. It all depends on how enthused
the director remains, and if he can make any progress in respect to the problems he's
encountered.
