It's been over a year since anyone has bothered to post anything.

Today I learned a valuable lesson....

When setting up a *nix server for public access, you should test the public features from an IP that doesn't have a specific firewall rule for it. Needless to say, we have been down since my last post and we didn't know it till someone outside our firewall told us. So for the 5 people that visit the EG family of web sites, I am sorry for not allowing you to laugh at us on a irregular basis.

If you are reading this...

Then dang, get a life. Actually that means you are now seeing the new faster EG and family box! YEAH!

Time to double the speed of the Elitegamer realm.
Posted by Skull_One at 08:46 AM CST
Starting Saturday we will be installing and moving the data from Elitegamer.com (and our family of related domains) from its current P2-300 machine to a tad faster P3-733 machine. This is the first step to getting ready for coding on WBK, our first multiplayer web based game. Most of the theory has been documented on resources, guilds and interaction. And now it is time to get the database layout and languages selected for the game. We are leaning towards PHP, MySQL but we are looking into Kylix (Delphi) and Apache DSOs for real time or at least daily graphic generation.

So if you should notice we aren't online for a few mins here and there over the next week or so, now you know why.

WBK - Resources
Posted by Skull_One at 10:56 PM CST
I think I have them all selected as well as their weights, densities and hardness. With this now done, we can start looking out how to set basic exchange rates. Of course in our game the free market economy should kick in and adjust the rate to what people are willing to trade/pay.

WBK is now in its design phase.

Elitegamers first multiplayer web based game is now in development. Skull_One, DragonĄen, PJ and Langaidin will be coding this epic game of... Hmmm, you are going have to wait and see :). Lets just put it this way, you get to pick what path to victory you want to take as well as how much time you want to play each day. The core design has already been laid out. We are now currently fleshing out the details so we can design the coding framework. I will be keeping an active log of the progress of this game as well as the date we will open the game to the public.

Possible Downtime... Not like it matters
Posted by dragonyen at 08:45 AM CST
Our connection provider will be performing maintenance on network equipment between midnight and 4 a.m. CST on Monday, February 17th, 2003. During this time service might be degraded or unavailable. Total unavailability will be no more than 30 minutes.

Work wins again...
Posted by Skull_One at 07:00 PM CST
Project X is not dead. Work has been murder on my home programming time. I am about 1/3 of the way thru the scripting language. I am going to try and finish it before Nov 1st so that DĄ can start fooIRCs intergration.

CR Status: Finally finished the graphic subsystem for map drawing
Posted by Skull_One at 12:03 PM CST
I only changed my mind 3 times. Of course my first idea was the one I ended up going with but I wanted to try a few things to be 100% sure I would be happy with it. Now writing the scripts that go with each map object. Then I will write the script engine. Yeah, I know that sounds backwards, but I figure I will change my mind on the scripts a few times before I am happy. Once the script engine tests good with player movement, DY will start intergrating fooIRC into CR. That's when the real fun will start. But once it is done, the rest is almost all down hill coding wise. Security issues will be the only hard part left once the game engine is talking on IRC. Still no clue what my time frames are. I think I will have an idea after DY ties CR to IRC.

Forgot to mention...
Posted by Skull_One at 02:22 PM CST
I started active coding on CR (Project X). The communications and display system were finished last week. Currently the mapping system is being coded. Once done, basic movement on the map will be tested. At that point DY will be able to integrate the communications system from fooIRC into CR. Then the real fun will begin. Scripting language has been designed for game control (yes, you will be able to design your own map elements in future version of CR) and will be coded as needed for initial release. Hopefully in three weeks I will have a clear timetable for each section of coding and release dates for alpha, beta and eventual release of the game.

TIRCDisplay
Posted by PJ at 12:33 AM CST
Just thought you guys might want to know that TIRCDisplay is now up, running, and inside fooIRC, thanks to AnEvilYak.

Builds are now posted which use it.

Down Time
Posted by PJ at 06:32 AM CST
Sorry for EliteGamer.com, DragonYen.com, SkullOne.com, and fooIRC.com being down for a number of hours this evening. I upgraded Apache to fix a new exploit floating around, and as a result it crashed and didn't restart. I just caught it, and started Apache back up. My fault, sorry. (Assuming anyone actually noticed. =)

Updated Debt, New DragonCam picture
Posted by dragonyen at 12:18 PM CST
Work has me so tied up with things... finding it hard to work on foo, update pages, etc. Progress on fooIRC is coming along pretty nicely. I have about 10 bugs I will be able to fix once the next version of Indy comes out.

Well CR is taking shape...
Posted by Skull_One at 11:28 AM CST
DĄ, AEY and myself have started dividing up the code for the game. For the most part it looks like AEY has communications, DĄ editors and baseline graphics, and I will be tackling the baseline objects and getting them to interact in the game world.

Depending on how the well we can change the IRCD to meet our needs, I am planing to have an alpha ready by Sept 1. The alpha will consist of the following. Players will be able to login to the game server, chat, start a game, load a world (which means loading 1 or more maps) and start the game sequence. If everything goes well to that point, then around Nov 1 we should be able to do a solid beta test. Planning beyond that would be crazy.

You will NEVER guess what I did over the last week.....
Posted by Skull_One at 04:59 PM CST
I hired a Yak.

Yeah, hard to believe but I have pulled it off. I am now in the position to ruin two programming careers besides my own.

I would like to welcome AnEvilYak to GLB Inc. I actually told him over 2 years ago that I would hire him when he graduated from college. He laughed back then and generally thought I was nuts. Well he was correct in one sense, I am nuts.

I now have the privilage of working with two of the best programmers out there. You can't ask for much more in a career.

I will be begging AEY to help me with TIRCDisplay coding as soon as he is up to speed with his day job. Plus with his addition, I might (to DĄs shock) actually start coding on CR (my idea of an turn based online game).

Vacation and Stuff
Posted by dragonyen at 08:22 PM CST
I'm back from Vacation, actually I have been for a couple days. Instead of trying to post news three times, I figure I'll just post collective news and move on with my night. Over at DragonYen.Com you will see that I have updated MyDebt page. I will start working on fooIRC again this weekend. And for those of you looking at EliteGamer.Com check out the babyDragonCam.

fooProgress
Posted by PJ at 05:03 AM CST
Hey guys. I just wanted to give a quick update. DragonYen ran off on vacation, so development on fooIRC is on hold until he gets back.

On a bright note, with any luck (and repeated email spam) S1 might have TIRCDisplay done by the time DY gets back next week. =)

fooIRC In Action!
Posted by PJ at 05:17 PM CST
Ok guy's, here it is. The first (public) screen shot of fooIRC in action.

 Click me!

None of the icon's are final yet, they are just the best we have at the moment.

The current color scheme is also not going to be the fooIRC default. It is just what I use for day to day use. It is of course 100% customizable.

We will be looking at a public beta as soon as TIRCDisplay is finished and integrated into foo.
